To be a parent is to experience the privilege of shepherding the life of a child. The Bible says children are a gift and I completely agree. They are a blessing, a reward. A reproduction of you, it is fascinating to watch the growth and maturation of a small human into an adult.
It is beautiful to consider that God chose my children for me and me for my children. The parent-child relationship is one that is mutually beneficial and one that comes with the opportunity for character-building growth on both sides.
Truth be told, I began to experience the blessing of motherhood well before I actually met my children. I felt a connection to them as I prayed over them, sang and read to them, and rubbed their little body parts and they shifted within my womb. I felt a sense of fulfilment knowing that I was contributing to a healthy foundation for their lives.
With the privilege came responsibility. Throughout their childhoods I took comfort in knowing that as I was entrusted to shape their minds and hearts in the way they should go, the Lord was leading and equipping me.
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of being a parent. Bless the mother and father who read this post that they may be equipped with wisdom, encouraged by your promises, and empowered to shepherd their children for time and eternity.
